While in school in Laramie, Wyoming we heard of an 8 month old male in Denver that needed a new home. We drove through a snow storm to see him. He bounced up the basement stairs, jumped up hard on Sandra’s lap resulting in our bringing him home to Laramie and a black eye for Sandra. He became our Siegfried. (Airedales, especially young untrained ones, have been known to knock around the unsuspecting owners, kids, innocent friends, etc). We had Siegfried for many years and he became our young daughter’s best friend – he never gave her a shiner. When he grew old and eventually went to the rainbow bridge, we all buried him in our backyard. Our daughter, Ashley, on her own, covered him with her favorite nighttime blanket so he wouldn’t get cold.
Henry was a black Airedale we rescued from a terrible situation near the Mexican border. We originally brought him in as a “rescue Airedale” to be adopted out, but he quickly found a place in our hearts. He was settling in nicely when our daughter, her husband, and their daughter, McKenzie, announced they should have another dog, namely Henry. Sandra and I were outvoted 3 to 2 and that was that. Since we retired, we can now devote more time to our passion, raising Airedales. We absolutely enjoy the entire process from breeding, whelping, and preparing the puppies for their homes. We love following the little ones as they mature and stay in touch with the friends we have made through the years because of this great breed.
Alma High School is the only high school in the country that has an Airedale as its Mascot. We visited this school and was very impressed with its faculty and students. We were also taken by its overall appearance. It was built in 1963 and is today a spotless facility.
